Bit late to comment on this but , i have written down a few of these things to check out later, but also! Its fun to hear you reading the potter books so late, I binge listened to all of them last year for the first time ever, with Stephen Fry, ( and now relistening to it with our dear swedish Krister Henriksson ) while at work.
I have never finished the whole book series until now, even though i adore that universe from the films hahha, it is quite a different experience, in the most positive way. ( i really do wish the films also kept the warm vibe they had in the first two, it feels like the magic slipped away after that.. ) But yes that dread is relateable, i struggle still a bit, even if im already done and relistening.
Thank you for this extensive list of favourites, i dont know what it is it just makes me feel happy and inspired!! The small things in life, and its fun when people share them, I hope you will make more of these, personally the sorry not sorry selfpromotional text was very nice and grounding, and im excited to listen to the linked podcast episodes!
and I listened to the Barbara Sher speech, also, very grounding, putting to words something that i feel many people say but in the most ''hustle culture wont wait for you'' kind of way rather than, we are human and we can still do things even without being the best, happiest person on earth, we just do things. And this convinced me to get the refuse to choose book as well.
Thank you again for these recommendations!! I saw you posted another list of book recommendations today and im really excited to go through them!
Oh and, its fun to read about the portable sauna, i imagine it like the warmest hug hahah.
Oh im gonna be an absolute nerd also and ask if u have done the hogwarts sorting hat thing, and what hogwarts house you'd be in.
Im a hufflepuff ever since i joined some swedish fansite almost 19 years ago, and it didnt really change much growing up. (I was a ravenclaw for a while until my teenage years had run their course and i seemingly reverted to my 8 year old self again)
I LOVE that you're getting into Harry Potter! I read the first three when I was younger and then the movies caught up to me so I stopped reading them. I just started reading them recently as well and WOW. The 5th book also blew my mind. So much better than the films. If your nervous system can handle it, I'd recommend not reading spoilers. I'm amazed you haven't encountered any yet. 😅 I so badly wish I could go back in time and read them having not seen the movies.
Me and my partner (who also read the books for the first time recently, before me) have said to each other several times "how awesome would it have been to have come of age with these books?" I sort of missed the train, and then I thought they were probably too childish for my taste. Which might have been a little bit true for the first books in the series. But yeah, like you say: the fifth book, wow. And the movies have nothing on the books. (We're currently watching them too, as we go.) 😊

I would be a Ravenclaw, definitely. 😂
