Another great and relatable letter! The well known quote, “Comparison is the thief of joy” could not be more true, but it can still be so hard to turn off that part of us. Like you’ve said, I think the trick is to turn the envy into inspiration to learn from instead fuel to wallow in.

I’m inspired by so many people, but I’d love to give my shoutout to Aaron Blaise. While I was considering getting into art seriously, I followed one of his turtorials and was left amazed at what I managed to achieve. I know it may sound silly, but it left me feeling like someone gave me a big pat on the back and said “See you able capable of learning this stuff!” and that empowered me so much.

I ended up finding my own different style from his, but I still love his work and finding ways to use what I’ve learned from his lessons in my own way.

So true!

Aaron Blaise is such a great guy. Love his style of teaching, so calming and reassuring. Will probably take another one of his courses in the future. 😌

I really appreciate this post. I often feel that jealousy and then depression when I see others doing what I would like to do. I really like how you reframed this and I think I can put your mindset to good use. Thanks for sharing this.

Thank you for sharing your insporation. Lots to check out now.

This August I discovered sacred geometry through a YouTube channel called Geometryptamine. He has been a massive insporation for me on my own journey of teaching myself how to draw sacred geometry and through all the "copying" and experimentation, finding what I love about the medium.

Around the same time I stumbled on dot work art too and found a few role models for that medium. Here's one of them: Dejvid Knežević.

Apart from that you, Louise, are my role model too, for a few reasons. I love how down to earth you are in your videos. A fellow introvert who wants to live a life on her terms and not be sucked into all the shoulds of this world. You make me feel like I could actually do this art thing for living. And that it may not necesserily have to be what I think it should be, but rather, it all starts with what I want for my life as an artist. So thank you for spreading your wisdom. :)

Thank you, Silvia. That means so much to me. 🙏🏻

Wow, Dejvid's art is amazing! I used to draw that kind of "dot art" back in highschool, and now I kind of want to do it again. Very inspiring. 😌

Nice. I can't believe it took me 38 years to discover dot work art. And now I'm obsessed. If you ever do it I hope you'll share it :)

I have to say that you’re one of my new art role models. 🫶🏻

I also enjoy Marc Brunet on YouTube! He has sooo many free teaching videos but he’s a digital artist.

I follow Kelsey Rodriguez too which is how I found you through her Make Art, Don’t Starve podcast interview with you! ❤️

I enjoyed this weeks email. I could hear you talking in my head. I like that. Have you found Nianiani on YouTube? She is so soothing and quite talented. I believe she has classes on Skillshare. Lindsay Weirich (aka The Frugal Crafter) has video's of reviews and technique. She knows more about paint than I think anyone I have watched so far. It's mind boggling the things she knows and remembers. lol. I love Chris Hong's videos. This would probably go better if I watched your video first. I don't want to forget to comment. I hope you get to feeling better soon. Chronic pain is hard to live with. I don't know if you use herbs but Turmeric can help with inflammation and pain. It helps me through my day. There are hot peppers that help too. My tummy can't handle them. Lol (I apologize for the rambley and disjointed comment.) Please take care of yourself. I'd miss the videos.

Yes, turmeric and ginger are my bffs. 😅 Love ayurvedic remedies and cooking.
